Day-cation

Last week I had a meeting in Harrisburg, so I asked my mom to take off work and come with me. After my AM meeting we had the whole day to spend frolicking the city. First stop? Hershey!

The "factory tour" is so cute, and it's free! You ride a little ride complete with singing cows and fake chocolate and learn how Hershey's makes all of their delicious candy. It was really cute- we actually ended up doing it twice!

After the factory tour we did the "make your own candy bar" attraction. It was absolutely worth the $15 it cost. You start out at a little computer screen where you design your bar. I had a white chocolate bar with toffee, pretzels, and butterscotch chips. Then it goes onto a conveyor belt where all your insides are dropped in. Next it gets coated with milk chocolate and sent to the drying chamber! While it dries you get to design a wrapper, then go pick up your finished bar! It comes inside of a metal keepsake box, which I really liked.

After the factory we went to lunch at a restaurant called The Chocolate Avenue Grille. Yummm! It was SO good. We ordered a hummus appetizer that was to die for, and then I got a coconut chicken salad that I'd like to eat everyday for life.

After lunch we headed back to Harrisburg and walked around the capitol building. The day had started out rainy but ended up being gorgeous. We really wish Hershey Gardens had been open, but of course the season started 3 days later :( It ended up being a perfect day and I'm so glad my mom was able to come!

If you could take off work and go on a day-cation, where would you go?

  1. Wait do you live near Harrisburg! I went to school around there, not sure if we went over this before! I haven't been to Hershey since childhood - I kept meaning to but never. Maybe this summer ;)

  6. That food looks amaaaazing and the bar you made sounds incredible! I live not too far from Hersey (I'm in NJ) and yet I've never been, but I really think that has to change soon

  7. I have to tell you, I once watched a special on the Hershey Park/Factory on the travel channel years ago and immediately became obsessed. It's definitely on my places to visit list!
