Oh, How Pinteresting

Today I'm linking up with The Vintage Apple for her Oh, How Pinteresting! Link up! I love Pinterest, but who doesn't, right? I used to pin all the time but now I really only get on once a week or so. It's still a fabulous website, though, so that's why I'm so excited to bring you all of my favorite pins of the week.  Let's get started!

Funny of the week:

I cannot even express how much I hate those "just girly things," or how much I love when other people make fun of them.

Scary of the week:

Uh, what? I'm gonna have to start reading packages more thoroughly...

Grumpy Cat of the week:

It's true, I do. Once I hated a girl before I even opened my eyes from my nap. Sometimes, you just know.

Nail art of the week:

As much as I love this, I'm pretty sure I could never do it. Womp womp.

Adult beverage of the week:

This is just so beautiful. I don't even know if I'd like it, but it's so pink and I just want it.

Recipe of the Week:

Could this be any cuter? And I think even I could make it... it looks easy. right?

Ecard of the week:
This is awful, but also freaking hilarious. This is what happens when you don't have respect for yourself, Ladies.

Cutie of the week:

Aw, wittle baby otter! Can i have him?!

I Wouldn't Wish it on Any Dog

This is Taylor, my sweet pup. Taylor is 8 years old. She loves barking, being petted and cuddled, and eating cat food. She hates thunderstorms, going outside to go potty, and whenever the cats get attention.

One more important thing about Miss Taylor: she has Lyme disease. This has been an incredibly sad thing to watch her go through. Lyme disease has mainly affected Taylor's joints and muscles.  She trips and falls often, and if she stays on her feet for too long her back legs give out. Taylor loves going for walks, but she can't walk walk farther than to the end of the block and back before her legs start to give out. There's been many times that she had to be carried home because she couldn't walk any farther on her own, and she is not a small dog, by the way. Taylor has always had difficulty going up stairs- they freak her out, but now she can't even go down the stairs without falling; poor baby.

This is a terrible picture, but you can see how she can't really
get her legs up and under her when she's trying to stand

Imagine watching your dog tumble down the porch steps every time she has to go potty. Imagine seeing your dog run after something with her back legs dragging behind her. Imagine being woken up in the middle of the night because your dog fell and she can't get up. These are all things I've experienced, and watching her struggle is absolutely devastating.

"Gimme that treat!"

Lyme disease is such a horrible illness, and I would never want any dog to go through what Taylor is going through. That's why it is so important to do everything you can to prevent Lyme disease in your dog.

  • Pet, cuddle, and brush your dog often- this is the best way to check for ticks. For the bacteria that causes Lyme to be passed to your dog, the infected tick has to be attached for 48 hours. It is so important to find the tick and remove it asap!
  • Always medicate your pet for fleas and ticks; never skip a month. Not only will a monthly dose of Frontline protect your dog from Lyme disease, it will keep her (and you) from itchy flea bites!
  • Don't leave your dog outside to be bitten by ticks! We have pets so that we can love them; so what's the point of having a dog who never comes in the house to be loved? Dogs love their people, and they want to be inside with us where it is safe.
  • If your dog is acting out of the ordinary take her to the vet immediately! This is a must for any illness, but it can be extremely effective for Lyme disease. Most dogs who's Lyme is caught early and treated are symptom free and healthy within a year. Unfortunately this hasn't been the case for Taylor, but it could be for your dog.
"No pictures, please!"
Keep your dog healthy, and prevent Lyme disease! For more info, check out this site, where I got my facts :)

And now that I'm done being all serious & depressing over here, head over to  Dog Hair is an Accessory and Understated Whimsy's Tall Tails link-up and look at some cute pet posts! (Not that Taylor isn't cute, of course!)

Life as a Leo

This past Tuesday, July 23rd, it became Leo territory in the universe. Do you know what that means? It's almost my birthday! And also, everyone is talking about me Leos. I found this Hi-Larious post the other day on MSN, 26 Signs You are a Leo. Seriously, click that link and I promise you'll laugh whether you're a Leo or not.

Now, not all of these applied to me, but some were so spot on I couldn't believe it. Here's a few of my favorites:

"No one has to wonder if you're pissed off or not" I've always been told that when I'm angry, it's written all over my face. No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to fake it if I'm in a bad mood. Definitely not my favorite trait about myself, but I guess it's just the Leo in me!

"You... have no patience for people BS-ing around" Yep, it's true. I have very low tolerance for idiots, and when they're especially bad I usually write a letter about it. My friends all make fun of my letter writing, but it's gotten me many a coupon! One time I got $125 off a plane ticket for writing a complaint to the airline company- uh, win! And another time an entire store management team had to take a seminar on customer service- double win!

"You're a tad impatient" Well, that's probably the understatement of the year. It goes on to say "When people put you on hold, for example, you just hang up." and yeah, I do that. I'm also really impatient waiting in lines at stores, and if it's not moving I usually just leave. Not because I'm mad- I totally understand that cashiers are going as fast as they can, but because it gives me time to rethink my purchase, and it almost never seems worth the wait.

"You're encouraging and known for giving inspiring pep talks." This one must be about drunk Amanda. Seriously, get a couple beers in me and I have something nice to say to everyone in the room, even if sober Amanda kind of hates them.  My boyfriend says that's how he can tell when I'm starting to get a little drunk, but I can tell because I always hit my head on the bathroom stall. Whatevs.

What zodiac sign are you? Do a lot of the characteristics apply to you?

Let's #backthatazzup with Whitney!
Get it? Leos, Little Lion Man? HAHA.

The Best Bloggers in All of Blogland

Today I am very excited to be linking up with Helene in Between & Venus Trapped in Mars for their "What Inspires your Blog Posts" link up!

Helene in Between

Honestly, I haven't really found my niche in the blogging world, and somedays (like yesterday- no post tuesday) I have no inspiration whatsoever. But the thing that brought me here, keeps me here, and makes me want to keep truckin' is the amazing bloggers I've found here in Blogland!

Erin! This lady is so funny. Her blog always makes me laugh, she's super cute and witty, and her love of puppies makes me start to forget that I don't even like them. I mean, doesn't her button make them look like fun? And most importantly, she's super down to earth. She has like a million gillion followers who all think she's not just the bee's knees, she's their whole darn leg. But she is still blogging because she likes to blog, and not just for, you know, money and fame. Oh, and when she commented on my first blog post I was so star struck I almost passed out. Then she followed me on Twitter and I just did.

Whitney! This happens to be the blog that brought me to Miss Erin. I've been reading them both since well before I started my lil ol' blog and it's clear why they became BFF's. Again, Whitney is HILARIOUS. Her posts are so funny, and her blog has also been super successful, which is part of what made me want to blog. Before reading I Wore Yoga Pants I didn't even realize that there was this whole blogging community out there, or that your blog could make you money, or that I wanted to read any blog that wasn't about crafting (which is what kind of posts I was looking for when i found her blog). Her blog showed me how fun and meaningful blogging could be. Oh, and speaking of being star struck, Whitney recently awarded me a lifetime supply of awesome points...  I die.

Wifessionals

Kaitlyn, and more specifically her Cara Box program! I started doing Cara Box before becoming a blogger, and browsing all the awesome reveal posts that got linked up each month made me want to get in on the action! Can't wait to do my first Cara Box as a blogger next month! :)

Helene in Between
Helene! First of all, she's clearly the inspiration for this post- it's her link-up! Second, this lady is funny. Her posts make me laugh out loud, she's wild and totally confident, and I'm incredibly envious of her collection of neon clothing. Oh, and she was my very first follower! I mean, really, the best blogger in Dallas was my first follower? What a freakin' doll. Definitely gave me some motivation to keep going after that first post!

Alexa! This is a lady I didn't find until I started my little blogging adventure, but I am so so so glad I did! Again, this is a funny lady (notice a trend? Oops.), as in laugh-out-loud-to-every-single-one-of-her-posts funny. And she is weird. She says weird things, like "Fact-a-doodle-doos," and she gives everyone a nickname, like her husband Glenn Coco. I do that. Like, later I'll probably go have a blasty-blast and then maybe go for a Jiggity-Jog with Green Eggs & Sam. (No, I won't do that. I don't jog and Sam is in Charlotte, but I will say weird shit.) Before reading Alexa's blog I never would have said any of that stuff on my blog because I don't know if people will get me, but she does it and it seems to go over pretty well, so she inspired me to not give a shit be myself! And, Alexa doesn't just inspire me in Blogland, she inspires me in life. Did you know married people could still be fun and cool? I didn't- sorry, married people. But Alexa seems like so much fun, and so does Glenn, and they still get their drink on. So maybe when you get married you don't have turn into a boring old homebody who ignores all their single friends... who knew? (Do I sound a little bitter? My bad.)

Cute kitten gifs like this also inspire me
So, that's just a few of the many amazing bloggers floating around Blogland! There are so many people who inspire me, encourage me, and make me want to blog! Plus, it's often their funny posts that inspire my posts! It's hard not to be inspired when you're apart of this wonderful blogging thing :)

Maybe Being a Crazy Cat Lady isn't so Bad...

I've never understood why old ladies with lots of cats have such a bad rap. I mean, what's so great about having a husband anyways? Boys are smelly, gross, sometimes mean, and often unreliable. Cats, on the other hand, are great. They're always down to cuddle and they never cheat. Yeah, cats are definitely superior to men.

& I'd chalk that up to a win

Why Having a Cat is Better than Having a Boyfriend:

All boys are really good for is cuddling, and cats are better at it anyways. Cats take up so much less space, since they do tend to be like a 20th of the size of a boyfriend. Plus there's never any arguments about who's gonna be which spoon.

Body hair isn't gross when it's on a cat. But on a guy? Keep that back hair to yourself, mister.

Yep, I definitely prefer my cats with fur

Cats won't judge you. They don't care if you wear sweatpants all day and they won't say a word if you skip shaving your legs for a day or seven. I'm pretty sure they enjoy your singing, too.

Cats will never ignore you to play COD... but they might just ignore you. Fortunately they only weigh about seven lbs though, so you can just pick them up and force them to hang out with you.

A cat will never accuse you of being a stage 5 clinger. In fact, I think cats prefer clingy girls. Oh, you want to hang out all day every day? Yeah, your cat is down for that.

A cat will never cheat on you, and if they are acting sneaky it usually leads to laughter, not tears.

So there you have it! Having a cat is obviously better than having a boyfriend.

Disclaimer: Yes, I do have a boyfriend, but he's well aware that our relationship is 10% about me liking him and 90% about his precious cat, Elsa. Oh, I've already mentioned her on this blog ten thousand times? Well here's another picture:

you're welcome :)

Friday Favorites

Oh hey. Now that Friday is practically over, I thought I should probably go ahead and post. I may never get the hang of this "posting on time" thing...

In honor of, well, Friday I've decided to link up for 5 on Friday to bring you my favorite 5 things from today!

1) The tan I got at the beach today- yes please! It's about time I got a little color :)

2) The tie-dye shirt I made with my cousin & wore today! I'm really kind of in love.

I tried to get a picture where I was actually wearing it,
but I spent all day at the beach so I look kind of ugly

3) My gold nail polish finally came in the mail today! Again, kind of in love. It's so shiny and pretty, & the fact that it was free doesn't hurt either!

Hand model alert!

4) The Bath & Body Works sale that's been going on forever now. Full-sized Midnight Pomegranate spray for 3.50? Yes please.

5) That Same Love plays on the radio. Seriously, it makes me tear up every. single. time. I feel so lucky to be apart of the change that is happening right now, and I can't wait for this all to just be a part of history. Trust me, there will come a day that gay marriage is a non-issue, and there's equality for all. And I cannot wait.

And on that note, let's #backthatazzup!

Dating Disaster with a Happy Ending

Today I'm linking up with Two Thirds Hazel and One to Nothin' for their Flirting with Disaster link up. When I read about this link up I immediately thought that it would be the perfect time to tell Sam and my "How we met" story. Wait, I thought this link-up was about dating disasters? Well yeah, the beginning of our love story was quite a disaster. But it all worked out and brought us to where we are today :)

So excited after not seeing my boo thang for 6 months
It all began on the first day of my freshman year of college. There's me, a little freshman eager to meet new men friends, and in front of me was this upperclassman who's a total hunk. Score! But it was no random happenstance that had this tall, dark, and handsome stranger was sitting directly in front of me. Nope, he'd noticed me when he walked in, and chose to sit in front of me because I was pretty. Awww. And then, being the smooth operator that he is, he asked me if he could borrow a pencil. And the rest, my friends, is history.

Cute right? That's why we usually end the story right there, but I'll give you folks the long version.

Fast forward about a month or so. We'd become pretty good friends, and one night he texted me and said "I just wanted to tell you that I would totally date you." After spending two days dreaming about being his girlfriend and getting all giddy and excited with my best friend, I finally got a chance to talk to him in person:
Me: Just for the record, I would totally date you, too
Him: Oh, um, yeah. I don't think it would be a good idea for us to date. You know, we have a class together. And, um, I like you, but, um, we have a class together and I don't think it would be a good idea...
Seriously? You can't date me because we have a class together? Whatever, dude.

My 20th Birthday! Hollaaa

Fast forward to October. We kissed for the first time, on someone else's suggestion, and even though I had multiple prospects at the time. I was kind of a playa as freshman...

Fast forward another week, I start dating Matt. The next day Sam invites me to ride with him to Clemson to get some free alcohol one of his buddies rescued from a liquor store that burned down... don't even ask. One the way home, out of nowhere, Sam says to me "If you were single I would totally date you" (we clearly said totally a lot back then). I have no idea what I said back, but I remember what I was thinking: I WAS SINGLE YESTERDAY, MORON!

Fast forward another month or two, Matt breaks my heart. Jerk. And Sam becomes my knight in shining armor by giving me a place to stay at the beginning of winter break, and driving me to the airport so that I can get home for Christmas, since Matt was supposed to do those things. Jerk.

I mean really, how cute are we?

Fast forward to January and we're back at school. Now Sam realizes what he could have had all along and he's trying to get me, hard. But I hadn't forgiven him for last semester yet. For a solid month he bought me flowers, took me on dates (What, is a girl supposed to refuse a free meal?), gave me Jersey Shore V-day cards, and asked me to be his girlfriend at least once a week. And you know what I said? "NOPE." Hey, a girl's gotta have standards.

NYC! Please ignore that woman's hiney
By mid-February Sam was pretty fed up with me, so when I showed up to a party and he was there we were both thinking "Great, just who I didn't want to see." His friend, Lauren, told him "You should make out with another girl to make her jealous." And make out with another girl he did, right in front of me. So what was drunk little me supposed to do? Well clearly start making out with another guy; what other option did I have? And PS, these people were both major downgardes. So there he is kissing another girl to make me jealous, and there I am kissing another guy out of jealousy. And there's everyone else at the party whispering about us. Alcohol leads to great decisions.

No really, it does, because Lauren's plan worked. I was insanely jealous. After getting so much attention from him for the last month, I couldn't stand seeing him with another girl, so I made sure his attention was back on me by the next afternoon. And a week later we were Facebook Official! It took about another week until I was actually dating him because I liked him, and not just so that no one else could have him, though. That's true love, ladies and gents.

So you see, we're 4 years in and madly in love now, but at the beginning we were, well, flirting with disaster :)
